Traditional Naturopathic Oath

The naturopathic oath is the binding moral foundation upon which the art and science of naturopathy was founded.

Since its beginning here in the United States, naturopathy has branched into two distinct areas – that of the physician and that of the doctor.

Naturopathic physicians, in states where it is legal to practice, act as primary care physicians utilizing allopathic medical practices in combination with holistic modalities to provide medical care to their patients.

Naturopathic doctors are the original incarnation of naturopathy keeping with the root definition of doctor meaning “ teacher”. Traditional naturopathic doctors utilize the ancient wisdom and current scientific knowledge of holistic modalities to educate their clients. Medical intervention is not a part of a naturopathic doctors scope of practice, rather creating holistic balance through lifestyle changes is.

The naturopathic oath unites both branches of the profession. Every naturopathic physician and doctor abides by these principles in their practice, creating a respectful and uplifting environment that values the health of the individual above all else.

  • First Do No Harm - Traditional Naturopaths do not prescribe pharmaceuticals, perform invasive procedures, treat or diagnoses disease.

  • Recognize The Healing Power of Nature - Traditional Naturopaths understand the body has an innate capacity for self-healing. They are trained to educate their clients in setting up the proper external and internal environments so that healing can take place.

  • Find and Eliminate The Cause - Traditional Naturopaths help clients evaluate their lifestyles, identify the cause of their problems and take corrective action to bring balance, rather than eliminate or suppress symptoms.

  • Doctor as Teacher - Traditional Naturopaths teach clients how to achieve and maintain whole health by empowering them to participate in the process of staying well.

  • Treat the Whole Person - Traditional Naturopaths understand that people are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual beings and that any imbalance affects all of these areas.

  • Health Promotion as Prevention - Traditional Naturopaths emphasize the condition of health to promote well-being and prevent illness for the individual, each community and the world.
"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model which makes the existing model obsolete."

Testimonials

"I have been Pam's client for the past 6 years and it was she who finally unearthed and healed the complex roots of my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After seven years of searching for answers, I was tired and almost without hope for change.

Pam gave me a second chance at a full and active life. If you have a chance to work with Pam as a colleague or client, I encourage you to do so. You will walk away from each encounter thankful for her presence, her intellect and her healing."
